Lots of people are waiting for our child to arrive and they can’t wait to shower him or her with love. Philip’s brother has two children: our nephew who is seven and our niece who is four. They live a little more than a mile away from us and are looking forward to a cousin who they will see often and can teach the ropes to.
Eleni’s parents recently moved here from Minnesota. Both Eleni and her brother live in the Chicagoland area now, and her parents moved to be near their children. However, another reason they moved was to be close to a grandchild. Our child will be their first grandchild, and they are eager to spend as much time as they can with him or her. We are pretty certain we’re going to have to watch Eleni’s mother carefully to make sure she doesn’t spoil our child too much!
We are fortunate to have a strong network of friends who we also consider to be family. Eleni has two girlfriends who may as well be her sisters. They are often around and look forward to having a little niece or nephew nearby. We also have the godchildren mentioned earlier, and in our tradition, the families of your godchildren are linked to you as strongly as your blood relatives. Given the families of our godchildren have a total of 19 children among them, our child will have plenty of playmates.
